The League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) on Wednesday reaffirmed its support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. amid the explosive claims made by his sister, Senator Imee Marcos, that the First Family was using illegal drugs.
In a manifesto, the LMP called the political noise and internal family friction “unnecessary distractions” that divert attention away from public service.
“Any threat to the stability of the Office of the President is a threat to the welfare and progress of every municipality,” said LMP national president and Echague Mayor Faustino “Inno” Dy V. “Our focus must remain absolute — public service, not political friction.”
The league urged national government officials to exercise restraint, prioritize collaborative governance, and continue efforts to stamp out corruption. It also called on all public servants and Filipinos to rally behind the constitutionally mandated leadership for a stable and prosperous Philippines.
The statement comes after Senator Marcos accused her brother, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, other family members and their close friends of using illegal drugs, during the Iglesia Ni Cristo’s anti-corruption rally at the Quirino Grandstand on Monday.
Malacañang dismissed the allegations as a “desperate move,” while Rep. Sandro Marcos, the President’s son and the House majority leader, called them baseless, saying they “have no truth and will bring nothing good to the nation.”
