UnionBank of the Philippines has enabled Google Pay for its Visa credit cardholders, making it one of the first banks in the country to offer the service. The launch allows UnionBank customers to use their NFC-enabled Android phones for contactless payments in stores, online, and in apps, without the need to present or input physical card details. With the service currently in beta, Google Pay is currently available for UnionBank Visa Credit Card holders, with additional support for Debit Cards to be rolled out soon.
“At UnionBank, we’re focused on making life easier for our customers by ensuring digital payments are as seamless and intuitive as possible,” said Mukul Sukhani, Cards and Consumer Lending Head. “With Google Pay, cardholders now have a safe, convenient way to pay—without needing to even physically bring out their cards. Payments completed with a tap of their mobile phone.”
Google Philippines Country Manager Prep Palacios said the rollout aligns with the company’s goal of supporting digital adoption in the country. “This launch underscores our enduring commitment to accelerating financial inclusion and fueling the next chapter of the Philippines’ dynamic digital economy.”
The feature builds on UnionBank’s growing contactless payment ecosystem, including its in-app Tap to Pay function. Cardholders will continue earning rewards, rebates, and cashback when using Google Pay.
Security features include tokenization and encrypted transactions, supplemented by UnionBank’s own protection systems. “While we prioritize digitalization and integrating technology into our services, the benefit to our customers always remains our top priority,” said Albert Cuadrante, Chief Marketing & Experience Officer.
Customers can activate Google Pay by adding their UnionBank Visa Credit Card through the Google Wallet app.
