The United States Embassy revealed that the US military is now positioned to help provide foreign disaster relief to communities affected by consecutive Typhoons Tino and Uwan, which caused extensive damage and tragic loss of life.

In a statement on Thursday, the US Embassy said the forward presence and ready posture of the United States Indo-Pacific Command in the region enabled a rapid and effective disaster response, underscoring the U.S. commitment as “friends, allies, and partners” during times of need.

The deployment comes at the request of the Philippine government.

Working closely with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), the Joint U.S. Military Assistance Group, Task Force–Philippines, and the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. military has deployed various assets and personnel to support relief operations.

“I have been thoroughly impressed by the preparedness and forward-leaning measures taken by the Philippine government during this situation, and we will support the lead of our Philippine counterparts as we carry out this relief mission together as a fully-aligned team,” said U.S. Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Robert Brodie, the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade commanding general.

“Support to our friends, allies, and partners, and their people in a time of need, is non-negotiable. Together, we are overcoming distance, weather, and logistical challenges to save lives,” he added.

Since 5 November, the U.S. military has been coordinating mission planning with the Philippine government and military agencies to provide vital supplies to storm-hit regions.

“This effort highlights the long-standing U.S.-Philippine Alliance and the shared commitment to regional resilience and humanitarian assistance,” the Embassy said.

The OCD on Wednesday reported that the death toll from Typhoon Uwan has climbed to 27, while fatalities from Typhoon Tino have risen to 232, with 112 still missing.
