Phoenix came out with all guns blazing in an emphatic, 107-76, rout of Terrafirma to arrest a four-game slide in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Season 50 Philippine Cup on Wednesday at the Ynares Center-Montalban.
A 10-0 start by the Fuel Masters set the tone for the lopsided victory that improved their record to 2-5.
Kai Ballungay was all over the stats sheet with 19 points on 7-of-12 field goal shooting and 12 rebounds with an assist and a block for Phoenix, which held the Dyip to just eight points in the fourth quarter while erecting a 32-point advantage.
“We’ve been through a lot early on in the season, but I think we’re a resilient group. I think we’re trying to take the steps in the right direction, and I think did that tonight,” Ballungay said.
Ricci Rivero had 16 points in his first game against his brother, Prince, while Jason Perkins and Bryan Santos scored 12 each for Phoenix.
Rivero gave the Fuel Masters their biggest lead, 107-75, off a three-pointer with 51 seconds left in the ball game.
Phoenix jumped to a 37-20 lead after the first 12 minutes of the match and never looked back to send Terrafirma to its fifth straight loss.
The Fuel Masters also did a great job shackling Jerrick Ahanmisi to just two points after dropping 26 in an overtime loss to TNT the last time out.
The Dyip dropped to the bottom of the standings with a 1-6 slate.
Paolo Hernandez had 14 points, Louie Sangalang scored 13 while Aljon Mariano and Brent Paraiso logged 11 and 10 markers, respectively, for Terrafirma.
