China will donate P141 million in humanitarian assistance to the Philippines following the devastation caused by Typhoon Tino and Super Typhoon Uwan, the Chinese Embassy in Manila announced on Tuesday.
“We express deep condolences to the victims and sincere sympathies to the bereaved families, the injured, and the affected communities,” the Chinese embassy said in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the embassy, the assistance package includes US$1 million or around P58 million in cash and 10 million Chinese yuan renminbi or around P82.8 million worth of relief goods to support recovery and relief efforts in hard-hit areas.
“We sincerely hope that the Filipino people in the disaster-stricken areas will recover and rebuild their homes soon,” it further stressed.
The embassy noted that in addition to the national-level assistance, Chinese provinces, local Chinese communities, and Chinese businesses operating in the Philippines have already extended immediate aid to affected areas.
The Chinese embassy noted that the humanitarian aid reflects the “friendship and solidarity” between China and the Philippines in times of crisis.
Over the weekend, Super Typhoon Uwan battered large parts of Luzon and the Visayas, leaving 27 people dead and displacing thousands.
Prior to that, Typhoon Tino ravaged Cebu and other parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, causing severe flooding and claiming at least 232 lives.
