Nearly 3M households lose power due to #UwanPH

Nearly three million households were left without electricity after Super Typhoon Uwan battered several regions on Sunday, according to the National Electrification Administration (NEA).

Latest government data as of Sunday night showed that about 2.93 million member-consumer-owners were affected by widespread outages across the Bicol region and the provinces of Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Northern Samar, and Samar.

At least 20 electric cooperatives in 12 regions reported total power interruptions, while 34 of the 89 cooperatives along the typhoon’s path experienced outages, the NEA’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department said.

Administrator Antonio Mariano Almeda said inspections are ongoing to ensure safe restoration of electricity. 

“We ask for a bit of understanding and patience… It is not easy to bring electricity back after a typhoon passes,” Almeda said in an interview this morning.

He added that all electric cooperatives are conducting thorough inspections to ensure safety, particularly in areas where meters were submerged in floodwaters.

Almeda said the NEA remains on full alert to help affected cooperatives recover and restore power in the coming days.
