The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) continues to deploy disaster response units across the country as it remains under red alert status amid the Super Typhoon “Uwan” threats in several regions.
AFP Public Affairs Chief Col. Xerxes Trinidad said the military has intensified Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) operations.
Troops and resources have been strategically positioned to conduct rescue operations, deliver relief, and provide emergency support to affected communities.
A total of 243 Search, Rescue, and Retrieval (SRR) teams, composed of approximately 1,500 personnel, have been dispatched to key areas, with a focus on Northern and Central Luzon—regions expected to experience the strongest impact of the typhoon.
The Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) is spearheading immediate response operations in coordination with other AFP units and local disaster response agencies.
To support these efforts, 81 land assets are currently in use for ongoing HADR activities, with additional equipment on standby to ensure sustained rescue, relief, and recovery operations.
The AFP emphasized its continued coordination with the Office of Civil Defense and local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (DRRMCs).
Authorities also urged residents to follow safety advisories from their local government units, noting that timely preparedness is key to saving lives.
Trinidad said the AFP’s proactive deployment underscores its commitment to protecting communities and reinforcing public confidence in the country’s disaster response capabilities.
