PVL, Candon City extend helping hands

CANDON, Ilocos Sur — The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) and Candon City will be donating the proceeds of the Reinforced Conference matches held at the Candon City Arena last Saturday to those affected by typhoon “Tino” in Cebu last week.
PVL president Ricky Palou and Candon City Mayor Eric Singson reached an agreement, saying that the proceeds of the league’s fourth visit to the Ilocos Sur city will be used as a means to extend help to the victims of the typhoon’s devastating onslaught in the Visayas.
“We decided, my fellow officials of the city, that the proceeds of these games in the PVL will be donated to Cebu City as our contribution sa mga naghihirap nating kababayan,” Singson said in a statement after Saturday’s showcase featuring PLDT against Galeries Tower and fan-favorite Choco Mucho versus ZUS Coffee.
Palou said they instantly agreed, knowing that their revenue would be a big help to the victims of “Tino.”
“The Mayor of Candon, Mayor Eric Singson, and I talked about it. We decided to give the proceeds of this game to the victims of the super typhoon,” Palou said.
“It was the Mayor who suggested. I said ‘yeah, that’s a good idea’ so we’ll do that.”
Palou emphasized the importance of supporting families severely impacted by the typhoon, many of whom lost homes and were forced into evacuation centers due to floods and destruction.
“For us, it is really important to help. We know that it’s difficult for a lot of people when a typhoon hits. They get displaced from their homes, they get put into shelters. So any help that anyone can give them is good for everybody,” he said.
