DILG suspends foreign travel of local officials amid Typhoon #UwanPH

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered all elective and appointive local officials nationwide to cancel and suspend foreign travel from 9 to 15 November 2025, as Typhoon Uwan continues to threaten the country.

The directive ensures that local chief executives and barangay officials are present in their respective jurisdictions to lead pre-disaster preparations, emergency response, and recovery operations.

DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla stressed that governors, mayors, barangay captains, and other local officials must be on the ground, in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and the declaration of a state of national calamity.

The DILG reminded officials that under the Local Government Code of 1991 and Republic Act No. 10121, they serve as chairs of their Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils and must be physically present during all phases of disaster management.

Local governments are also instructed to assist affected communities, reactivate Local Price Coordinating Councils to prevent overpricing, and coordinate closely with Regional and Provincial DRRMCs and DILG field offices for unified and timely action.

All DILG Regional Directors have been tasked to ensure full compliance. Remulla emphasized that visible, hands-on leadership from both elected and appointed officials is critical to protect communities and support swift recovery efforts.
