127 missing, 114 dead in Cebu after #TinoPH

Typhoon Tino has left at least 114 dead and 127 missing in Cebu, with authorities struggling to clear debris and restore power as rescue and relief operations continue, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said.

In an interview, Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV, OCD deputy administrator for operations, reported that in Mandaue City alone, 51 people are unaccounted for — including 34 from Compostela, 17 from Balamban, and two from Cebu City — while six more are missing in Talisay City.

“There are still missing persons in Cebu — around 127 in total as of now. We expect the numbers may still increase,” Alejandro said.

He also confirmed that 114 people have been reported dead due to the storm.

One of the main challenges for authorities, Alejandro said, is clearing debris carried by floodwaters.

“The challenge now is debris clearing — we’re working double time because there’s a lot that needs to be cleared. That’s our priority,” he said.

Despite ongoing operations, Alejandro said the number of casualties and missing persons is expected to rise as validation continues. Around 1,300 houses have been reported damaged, though verification is still underway.

Government aid has already reached affected local government units, with ₱86.1 million distributed so far, Alejandro said.

Meanwhile, 119 areas remain without power or experience intermittent electricity, according to OCD data.

The agency is also monitoring a new weather disturbance near Mindanao, which Alejandro warned could intensify.

“We’re monitoring not only the eye of the storm but also the rainbands. It’s forecasted to be very strong,” he said.
