NGCP restores 5 VisMin transmission lines amid ‘Tino’

TThe National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has restored five transmission lines in the Visayas and Mindanao following the onslaught of Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmaegi), while two lines have been partly energized and five others remain unavailable.

In an advisory early Wednesday, NGCP reported that the Nabas–Unidos 69-kilovolt (kV) line, which services the Aklan Electric Cooperative (AKELCO), was restored at 11:02 p.m. on Tuesday.

Also restored as of 10 p.m. Tuesday were the following transmission lines:

  • Nabas–Sapian 69kV Line, serving Aklan Electric Cooperative (AKELCO);

  • Nabas–Culasi–Bugasong 69kV Line, supplying the Antique Electric Cooperative (ANTECO);

  • Amlan–San Carlos 69kV Line, catering to Negros Oriental 1 Electric Cooperative (NORECO I) and Negros Oriental 2 Electric Cooperative (NORECO II); and

  • Bislig–Pob Barobo 69kV Line, serving Surigao del Sur 1 Electric Cooperative (SURSECO I).

Two other lines have been partly energized:

  • Ormoc–San Isidro 69kV Line, which services Don Orestes Romualdez Electric Cooperative (DORELCO), Southern Leyte Electric Cooperative (SOLECO), LEYECO III, LEYECO V, and Biliran Electric Cooperative (BILECO); and

  • Ormoc–Baybay 69kV Line, catering to LEYECO IV.

However, five transmission lines remain unavailable due to the typhoon’s impact:

  • Maasin–Baybay 69kV Line (LEYECO IV);

  • Calongcalong–Asturias 69kV Line (Cebu III Electric Cooperative or CEBECO III);

  • Compostela–Consolacion 69kV Line (Cebu II Electric Cooperative or CEBECO II);

  • Bacolod–San Enrique 69kV Line (Negros Electric and Power Corporation or NEPC, and Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative or NOCECO); and

  • San Jose–Bugasong 69kV Line (ANTECO).

The NGCP also reported that three 138kV lines and one 230kV line are currently unavailable, although details were not disclosed.

“NGCP has mobilized its line crews and is currently conducting patrols. Simultaneous restoration activities are being carried out in areas already accessible,” the grid operator said.
