Seventy-five years. That’s how long the Januarius Fil-Am Invitational has been part of Philippine golf history — a legacy built on friendship, competition and an enduring love for the game.
This year, the tournament celebrates its diamond anniversary in grand fashion, returning to its iconic twin venues — Baguio Country Club (BCC) and Camp John Hay Golf Club — from 25 November to 13 December.
On Wednesday, the men behind the prestigious event officially launched what they proudly called “the best ever Fil-Am Invitational.”
BCC general manager Anthony de Leon and John Hay Golf Club top executive Bong Arguelles unveiled impressive numbers to back that claim: 301 teams and nearly 1,500 players are set to compete in the weeks-long golfing spectacle.
“But more than the numbers, it will be the quality of the tournament that will make this Fil-Am memorable,” said De Leon, emphasizing that this year’s milestone event will raise the bar for amateur golf competitions in the region.
Backing the event for the third consecutive year is Januarius Holdings, a private asset management firm founded in 2008. The company’s continued support underscores its commitment to the growth of Philippine golf and the preservation of the tournament’s storied legacy.
“For as long as there is Fil-Am, Januarius Holdings will always be there,” said Januarius Holdings chairman JJ Atencio.
Both host courses are currently undergoing extensive preparations to ensure pristine playing conditions. Tournament director and John Hay general manager Buddy Resurreccion and De Leon confirmed that lights will be installed on the closing holes to ensure all players finish their rounds on time. “We are doing our best to prepare the course,” they said.
A tweak in the tournament format has also paved the way for 40 additional teams to join the field. Rules official Jack Imperial explained that each team will now consist of four players, all of whose scores will count under the Stableford scoring system — a change designed to heighten competition and fairness.
What began decades ago as a friendly face-off between Filipino and American golfers has evolved into the longest-running and most prestigious amateur golf tournament in the Asia-Pacific region. Yet, for many, the Fil-Am Invitational remains more than just a competition — it’s a tradition, a homecoming and a celebration of camaraderie in the cool mountain air of Baguio City.
The 75th Fil-Am aims to be not only a showcase of golf excellence but also a festival of community spirit. Players and fans can look forward to exciting side events, raffle draws and sponsor activations from top golf brands.
Beyond the fairways, the tournament’s impact on Baguio’s local economy cannot be overstated. With thousands of golfers, guests and fans expected to flock to the city during the two-week event, hotels, restaurants and small businesses are bracing for one of their busiest — and most festive — seasons of the year.
After 75 years, the Fil-Am Invitational continues to embody what makes Philippine golf truly special: a blend of competition, camaraderie and community. And as it enters its next chapter, this diamond milestone promises to shine brighter than ever — celebrating not just a game, but a tradition that has stood the test of time.
