Manila Electric Company (Meralco), led by its Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan, has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating the country’s transition to sustainable mobility through its Electric Vehicle Adoption Program, which was showcased during the 13th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) held on 23 to 25 October at the SMX Convention Center Manila in Pasay City.
With the theme “Charge Ahead, Ignite the EVolution,” this year’s summit underscored the growing momentum of electric vehicles as a mainstream option for Filipino consumers and businesses.
Electric Vehicle Adoption Program
During the event, Meralco presented its Electric Vehicle Adoption Program, a cornerstone of its sustainability agenda that supports a cleaner, smarter, and more energy-resilient future. The program is built on three key pillars:
Meralco as an Enabler, ensuring the reliability and accessibility of EV charging infrastructure; Meralco as a User, by electrifying its own vehicle fleet; and Meralco as a Player, through the operation of commercial charging stations and partnerships to drive nationwide EV adoption.
In his address before summit participants, Meralco executive vice president and chief operating officer Ronnie L. Aperocho emphasized the company’s vital role in driving the country’s EV revolution.
“Electric mobility is no longer a distant vision — it is here, it is real, and it is transforming the way we move and power our lives. Every charging station built, every vehicle electrified, and every consumer who makes the shift to electric is proof that real change is happening now. At Meralco, we are committed to igniting this EVolution by strengthening the grid, powering EV infrastructure, and electrifying our own fleet,” Aperocho said.
He also underscored the need for collaboration among policymakers, innovators, and industry leaders to push e-mobility beyond infrastructure development — through sound policies, public awareness, and unified action.
“This is why Meralco continues to support emerging technologies, bridge barriers, and foster industry collaboration in platforms like the Philippine EV Summit, which unites policymakers, innovators, and industry leaders to collectively drive adoption and accelerate the country’s transition to electric mobility,” he added.
