KORONADAL CITY — South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. called on national government officials to observe professionalism and mutual respect in performing their duties, following recent remarks made by Land Transportation Office Chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao during his visit to Region 12.

Tamayo said public pronouncements must be handled with prudence, especially when they risk casting doubt on local leaders and institutions without basis. His statement came after Lacanilao vowed to “spare no one” in his anti-corruption campaign, mentioning even officials allegedly backed by governors, congressmen, or mayors.

According to Tamayo, such remarks were unnecessary and could create misunderstanding among government ranks. He emphasized that integrity in public service is best demonstrated through quiet and consistent work, not divisive rhetoric.

The governor added that LTO Region 12, under Director Melharrieh Tomawis, has consistently performed well, citing its strong revenue collection record among the top in Mindanao as proof of its transparency and efficiency.

Tamayo also took exception to what he described as “inappropriate boasts” attributed to Lacanilao, including claims about his alleged role in the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte. The governor said public officials should remain humble and focused on their mandates rather than personal recognition.

“Arrogance has no place in public service,” Tamayo said. “We must act with humility, responsibility, and respect for our colleagues and the institutions we serve.”

He reiterated that effective governance relies on collaboration and integrity, not on unfounded accusations or self-promotion that erode public trust.
