Arriving just in time to honor their departed loved ones, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, along with her husband, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., attended Mass at Malacañang on All Souls’ Day.
They were joined by other members of the family, including former First Lady Imelda Marcos and the President’s sister, Irene Marcos-Araneta.
The First Couple had just returned from South Korea where they led the Philippine delegation to the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit from 31 October to 1 November.
“Offered a mass for our dearly departed loved ones this All Souls’ Day,” the First Lady said.
“May their memories continue to bring us comfort, strength, and love that never fades.”
On their arrival on Sunday, 2 November, the First Couple went to Taguig City to pay their respects to former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and other heroes buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
“A quiet moment to remember those we’ve loved and lost,” Mrs. Marcos said. “On All Souls’ Day, we carry them in our hearts with gratitude for the memories they left behind.”
Earlier, President Marcos sent flowers to the tombs of every former president as a sign of respect and gratitude for their contributions to the country.
Before leaving South Korea, the First Couple took a moment to honor the brave soldiers who had fought in the Korean War, including the Filipino troops who served with courage and sacrifice.
“A moment of quiet remembrance at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Korea. Here lie thousands of brave souls from 14 nations who gave their lives for peace during the Korean War in the early 1950s. Their sacrifice continues to remind us of the true cost of freedom,” she said.
“Filipinos stood shoulder to shoulder with Koreans through one of the darkest chapters in their history. Today, we continue to stand with them — in friendship, in solidarity, and in a shared hope for lasting peace,” she said.
