Metro dead yearning for visits?
Maybe not for the well-loved late Senator Miriam

Fewer people visited the Manila South Cemetery in Makati on All Saints’ Day, 1 November.
More than 48,000 people had visited the cemetery as of 1 p.m., according to the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
Authorities earlier said around 100,000 visitors were expected at the Manila South Cemetery.
Meanwhile, the local government of Manila provided wheelchair assistance for those visiting their deceased loved ones.
Free rides were also available inside the cemetery to assist those visiting graves located far from the entrance.
Further, authorities reminded the public that aside from the usual prohibited items such as firearms, pointed objects, liquor, and cigarettes, pets were also not allowed inside the cemetery premises. Private vehicles were likewise prohibited from entering.
Visits to the Manila South Cemetery are allowed from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. until 2 November, but overnight stays remain prohibited.
Meanwhile, the late Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago was visited by her fans and supporters at her tomb at Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina City on Saturday.
One visitor, Rolly Marbella, remembered the late senator as an exemplary public servant, saying that if she were alive, she would “slap corrupt politicians” involved in anomalous flood control projects.
“We’re always here during Sundays. When she was still alive, she could do good things for us,” said Marbella, who works with the late senator’s husband, Atty. Jun Santiago.
“As long as we’re alive, we will continue to take care of the late senator,” he added.
Marbella said he and other supporters visit the senator’s tomb at least once a week to clean it.
“We don’t want others to clean,” he said.
He described the late senator as an honest and very good public servant.
“If she were still alive, she would slap the face of government officials and politicians involved in corruption,” he said.
He also urged the youth to emulate what the late senator did as a public servant.
Over the weekend, the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation reactivated its “Biyaheng Arangkada” Motorists Assistance Program to ensure safe and convenient travel during the Undas season.
