OYAL HUA HIN, Thailand — Jared Saban fired a one-over-par 73 on Friday before play was suspended due to heavy rains, dropping him from the lead in the boys’ Class C division at the Singha Thailand Junior World Championships.
Saban had led the division after the first round, but clubhouse leader Yubo Shen overtook him with a 68, giving Shen a one-stroke advantage over the Filipino. Saban’s round included two birdies against three bogeys, an eagle on the 15th hole, and bogeys on the 16th and 17th holes, leaving him at even-par 144. Four other players in his division have yet to complete their rounds.
Luis Espinosa struggled with an 81, bringing his total to 13-over.
In the girls’ Class D bracket — the only division to complete play — Brianna Macasaet was the top Filipino finisher, placing fourth with a 157 total after carding an 81. Kamilla del Mundo, meanwhile, shot an 89 to drop to 10th at 19-over, while Stephanie Gan posted her second straight 93 for a 186 total.
In the girls’ Class B division, Mona Sarines was 1-over through 12 holes, bringing her total to 7-over. Nicole Gan and Lisa Sarines were 3-over and 4-over with six holes remaining, for overall totals of 13-over and 14-over, respectively. Brittany Tamayo completed 15 holes at 1-over for a 15-over total, while Marqaela Dy was 16-over through 15 holes.
Play in the boys’ Class A and B divisions had not yet started when the rain suspension came. Shinichi Suzuki leads Class A with a 69, while in Class B, Mico Ungco and Vito Sarines sit in joint second and tied sixth, respectively.
The competition resumes once the weather clears, with players eager to regain momentum and challenge for top honors.
