ILOILO CITY — The Department of Trade and Industry in Western Visayas (DTI-6) has assured the public that prices of candles and bottled water—two of the most in-demand commodities during Undas—remain stable, with adequate supply across the region.
In a press briefing on Thursday, OIC-Regional Director Ma. Dinda Tamayo said DTI-6 has intensified monitoring to ensure fair pricing and sufficient stock levels ahead of the long holiday.
“Our monitoring reveals that both candles and bottled water remain stable, with no reported price increases,” Tamayo said.
DTI-6 is tracking two candle brands with 37 stock-keeping units (SKUs) and 10 bottled water brands with 34 SKUs in 205 stores regionwide, including Negros Occidental.
The prevailing price of household candles ranges from ₱47 to ₱69 per pack of 20, while vigil candles are sold between ₱69 and ₱99 each.
Meanwhile, the price of bottled water in supermarkets shows a stable to slightly declining trend, with changes averaging less than two percent. Prices in grocery stores also remain steady.
“The price levels are consistent with our previous monitoring and with the DTI’s suggested retail prices (SRPs),” Tamayo added.
DTI-6 has also found no cases of hoarding, overpricing, or stock shortages in any part of the region.
Tamayo reminded consumers to buy properly labeled products and to report any overpricing or unfair trade practices to DTI offices or consumer hotlines.
“We encourage the public to remain vigilant and help us maintain fair market conditions during Undas,” she said.
The DTI’s regular market surveillance aims to protect consumers while supporting fair competition among retailers throughout the holiday period.
