Beyond fulfilling customers’ needs, SM Supermalls continues to operate with a deeper purpose — protecting our only home, the planet.

Green Ethics in Action

SM Supermalls is ramping up its efforts to promote environmental sustainability in urban centers by integrating green infrastructure across its properties. These initiatives enhance air quality, support eco-friendly transportation, and foster healthier, more livable cities.

From people-centric spaces like SM Mall of Asia, SM Aura Premier, and the SM North EDSA Sky Garden, to the inclusion of endemic flora that encourage biodiversity, SM continues to reimagine mall spaces that care for both people and the planet.

Clean Air and Smart Mobility

Championing clean transport, SM has expanded its bike-friendly infrastructure nationwide, now offering over 5,000 parking slots for cyclists.

In the shift toward cleaner energy, Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) are now available in 69 SM Supermalls, empowering more Filipinos to make sustainable mobility choices.

Solar Power and Energy Efficiency

In line with its Net Zero by 2040 commitment, SM Prime continues to scale up its solar energy portfolio — now the largest in the Philippines.

Operating 44 malls with solar PV systems, SM generates a combined peak energy of 51.6 MW from 96,000 solar panels across Luzon and Visayas. This translates to an annual reduction of over 19,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions, equivalent to removing more than 4,000 cars from the road.

Water Conservation and Circular Economy

Reinforcing its pledge to responsible water use, SM recycled 5.59 million cubic meters of water across its 88 malls in 2024 — equivalent to filling 2,200 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

SM City Baguio’s Rainwater Treatment Facility, launched in 2023, processes rainwater through a six-step filtration system that ensures potability. In 2023 alone, over 17,000 cubic meters of rainwater were converted into usable water, helping reduce dependence on freshwater sources.

The rainwater treatment facility (RTF) of SM City Baguio utilizes a rigorous six-step treatment process with real-time monitoring, ensuring processed water always adheres to potability requirements.

Waste for Cash: A Culture of Recycling

Through its long-running “Trash to Cash” program — held every first Friday and Saturday of the month — SM encourages communities to exchange recyclables for cash, promoting a Waste-Free Future since 2007. The initiative empowers individuals and local communities to participate in recycling and resource recovery, turning small actions into lasting impact.

Disaster Preparedness and Inclusive Resilience

As part of its SM Cares initiatives, SM regularly conducts emergency preparedness drills, sensitivity training for frontliners, and inclusive activities such as “Happy Walk for Down Syndrome” and “Angels Walk for Autism.”

SM also partners with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in nationwide simultaneous fire drills, showcasing the strength and leadership of female firefighters and promoting gender inclusivity in emergency response.

Building a Sustainable Future

In line with its goal of future-ready, green architecture, SM is set to expand SMX Manila through SMXCITE, an 18,000-sqm event space slated to open by 2027. The project will feature energy-efficient systems, smart layouts, and universally accessible design, reinforcing SM’s role as a hub for innovation and inclusive growth.

All for You. For Every You. For Every Vibe. For Every Next.

Through its commitment to Place, People, and Purpose, SM Supermalls continues to evolve with every Filipino — building spaces that uplift communities, protect the planet, and inspire a better tomorrow.
