The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday said all units nationwide will be on full alert status to ensure the safety and security of Filipinos during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on 1 and 2 November.
In a press conference at Camp Crame, PNP spokesperson P/BGen. Randulf Tuaño noted that while no threats have been monitored so far, the police force will remain vigilant and deploy additional personnel nationwide.
“Kapag panahon po ng Undas, nagtataas po tayo ng full alert status (During Undas, we raise our full alert status),” Tuaño said.
“Wala naman tayong natatanggap na anumang banta, pero tuloy-tuloy ang trabaho ng PNP sa intelligence gathering at pagpapanatili ng kaayusan (We haven’t received any threats, but the PNP continues its work in intelligence gathering and maintaining order),” he added.
Under full alert status, all police personnel are required to be on duty, with absences and leaves suspended to maximize police visibility and rapid response capabilities.
According to Tuaño, 31,298 police officers will be deployed across the country to secure 5,065 cemeteries, columbariums, and memorial parks. In addition, 5,169 police assistance desks will be set up to assist visitors and manage crowd flow.
The PNP will also be supported by 11,707 personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). Meanwhile, 29,899 barangay officials and volunteers from non-government organizations will serve as force multipliers to help maintain peace and order.
Further, Tuaño reminded the public to coordinate with local government units (LGUs) for announcements and crowd control measures related to cemetery visits.
“Kung saka-sakali na kinukutuban sila o nangangailangan ng police assistance, simple lang po, gamitin natin yung unified 911… Lahat ng tawag, hindi lang emergency, tinatanggap ng unified 911 (If they ever feel uneasy or need police assistance, it’s simple, just use the unified 911… All calls, not just for emergencies, are accepted through the unified 911),” he noted.
The PNP also urged travelers and cemetery visitors to remain vigilant, secure their belongings, and report any suspicious activities to authorities.
Every year, millions of Filipinos flock to cemeteries nationwide to honor departed loved ones during Undas, one of the country’s most widely observed holidays.
