President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday announced that all families displaced by the recent 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Cebu now have shelter, as the government continues transitioning evacuees from tents to sturdier modular housing units.
During his visit to the Bogo Tent City in Barangay Cogon, the President said temporary shelters have been provided to all residents who lost their homes in the 30 September earthquake.
“I'm happy to report na lahat ng nasiraan ng bahay ay mayroon ng tinitirahan, kahit na tent lang muna,” Marcos said.
("I'm happy to report that everyone who lost their homes now has a place to stay, even if it's just a tent for now.")
He added that modular shelter units are being installed to replace tents and provide more durable living conditions for evacuees.
“Pinapalitan na natin ‘yung tent at nilalagay na natin ‘yung mas maganda, mas matibay na housing, ating tinatawag na modular shelter,” he said.
("We are now replacing the tents with better and more durable housing, which we call modular shelters.")
Marcos also assured that basic needs such as food, water, and sanitation facilities are being provided to all displaced families.
“Lahat ng tao na naging biktima ay mayroon na sinisilungan, mayroon silang kinakain, mayroon silang kinukuhanan ng tubig, at toilet facilities na maayos,” he said, adding that other needs are being addressed as they arise.
("All the people who were affected now have shelter, food to eat, access to water, and proper toilet facilities.")
The President returned to Cebu to assess ongoing recovery efforts and ensure the proper delivery of government aid to affected communities.
He reiterated the national government’s commitment to supporting post-earthquake rehabilitation.
“Basta’t may pangangailangan, nandiyan ang pamahalaan... Patuloy pa ito kung ano pa ang pangangailangan,” Marcos said.
("As long as there is a need, the government will be there... This will continue for whatever else is needed.")
The 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Cebu caused widespread structural damage and displaced hundreds of families, particularly in northern Cebu.
