Beyond elated, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos proudly shared that the Aklan Piña weaves have reached the heart of Italy.

In a social media post, Mrs. Marcos shared photos from her visit to the Philippine Embassy in Rome, where Aklan Piña fabrics were on display.

“From the looms of Aklan to the heart of Italy so lovely to see the artistry of our Aklanon weavers shine all the way in Rome,” she said.

She noted that the centuries-old piña weaving tradition has been recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

“[It] is a true testament to Filipino creativity and resilience,” Mrs. Marcos said.

“Proud of our weavers whose hands keep our heritage alive, thread by thread,” she added.

After her visit, the First Lady spent some time with the Filipino community.

“It was such a joy to spend the evening with our ‘kababayan’ in Rome — laughing, singing, sharing stories and celebrating the Filipino spirit. It always feels like home wherever we go,” she said.

“Ang saya talaga ng mga Pinoy (Filipinos are very joyful),” she noted.

“To our community leaders in Rome, thank you very much and mabuhay!” she said.

‘Serbisyo Caravan’ in Milan

In their last stop in Italy, Mrs. Marcos extended the helping hand of the government to provide services to the Filipinos living in Milan.

“Through the OFW Serbisyo Caravan, we were able to bring passport, health, business, legal services … and yes, even free haircuts to our kababayan!” she said.

“As we head back home, I carry with me the stories, smiles, and strength of every Filipino I met,” she added.

The First Lady reminded them that no matter where they are in the world, the Philippine government — and the Filipino people — will always be with them.

Mrs. Marcos was joined by Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan, who led the OFW Serbisyo Caravan.
