A Crown of Faith and Gratitude.
History and devotion converged in Rosario, Cavite, as Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary – Reina del Caracol was solemnly declared the 61st canonically crowned Marian image in the Philippines. The historic coronation was led by Archbishop Charles Brown, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, together with Imus Bishop Reynaldo Evangelista, marking a milestone of faith not only for the Diocese of Imus but for the entire nation’s enduring Marian heritage.
The canonical title of the image—Nuestra Señora del Santísimo Rosario, Reina del Caracol—was officially granted by the Holy See, affirming the deep devotion of generations of Caviteños to their beloved patroness. The pontifical coronation was authorized by Pope Francis on March 3, 2025, and was joyfully fulfilled on October 9, 2025, at the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary in Rosario, Cavite.
The Meaning of “Reina del Caracol”
The title Reina del Caracol—“Queen of the Caracol”—is both symbolic and deeply local. It embodies the Blessed Virgin’s maternal queenship, guiding her children toward Christ through the prayer of the Holy Rosary. The Caracol, a centuries-old tradition unique to Cavite, features devotees dancing and parading in rhythmic procession, a gesture of joy, thanksgiving, and unwavering faith.
This living expression of devotion originated from seafarers and fisherfolk who, according to local accounts, were saved from a violent storm after calling upon the Blessed Mother’s intercession. Since then, the Caracol has stood as a celebration of divine protection and gratitude for countless answered prayers.
A Miracle in Motion
To the people of Rosario, Reina del Caracol is not only a religious icon—it is a symbol of hope, protection, and miraculous grace. Generations have turned to her for intercession in times of distress, illness, and uncertainty. Her image, lovingly enshrined at the diocesan shrine, continues to draw pilgrims from all over the country who come to seek comfort and strength under her maternal care.
During the coronation ceremony, Archbishop Brown described the event as “a testament to the living faith of the Filipino people.” The air was filled with music and prayer as devotees waved white handkerchiefs and joined in singing hymns of praise—transforming the celebration into a vibrant display of faith, culture, and unity.
A Celebration of Faith and Heritage
The pontifical coronation of Nuestra Señora del Santísimo Rosario – Reina del Caracol was more than a ceremonial crowning—it was a spiritual renewal for the community. It reaffirmed the Filipinos’ profound love for the Blessed Mother and their enduring trust in her guidance.
“The Pontifical Coronation is not merely a ritual,” Bishop Evangelista remarked. “It is a proclamation of our faith, unity, and hope as a people under the maternal care of Our Lady.”
As the newly crowned Reina del Caracol shone beneath her golden crown and radiant mantle, the people of Cavite rejoiced—grateful for a history intertwined with miracles, and hopeful for a future illuminated by faith.
