To ensure the safety of its residents, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno ordered the demolition of houses and makeshift stores at the foot of the Smokey Mountain landfill in Barangay 128, Manila, on Friday, 15 August 2025.
This decision comes after heavy rains from the monsoon and consecutive typhoons caused landslides and falling debris from the mountain of garbage.
