A disbarment case has been filed against former Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez for allegedly breaching client confidentiality through revelations in his book about President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s 2022 campaign.

Jason Binay, nephew of former Vice President Jejomar Binay, lodged the complaint, accusing Rodriguez — who also served as Marcos’ legal counsel — of violating his professional duty “by revealing confidential matters from the President’s 2022 campaign and early months of the Marcos administration.”

Binay said the alleged breaches were detailed in Rodriguez’s book Kingmaker.

“In my view, the disclosures, regardless of their truthfulness, were not mere storytelling but a calculated act tied to personal interest and political ambition,” he said in a statement.

Binay added, “Such actions, prohibited under the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability, misuse client confidences and undermine public trust in the legal profession, especially when committed by someone closely tied to the highest office in the land.”

He stressed that it is a lawyer’s duty to protect a client’s trust.

“I seek not political confrontation, but the guidance of the Honorable Court to educate future members of the Bar like myself on the uncompromising standards of integrity, loyalty, and professionalism that must govern our conduct,” he added.

Rodriguez served as spokesperson and chief of staff during Marcos’ presidential campaign. After Marcos won, he was appointed Executive Secretary but resigned after less than three months.

He has since allied himself with the Dutertes and ran for Senate in the May 2025 elections as a guest candidate under the Duterte-backed PDP–Laban.
