Manila Water Co. is constructing a P932-million earthquake-resilient reservoir that will help ensure uninterrupted water supply for residents of Quezon City, San Juan, and Mandaluyong, even during major disasters.
The Razon-led firm said Monday that the San Juan Reservoir along N. Domingo Street in Quezon City is targeted in the third quarter of 2026. It will store up to 56 million liters of water and withstand earthquakes of up to magnitude 7.2.
The new facility replaces the original 1968 structure and features upgraded electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, and site development systems.
“The San Juan Reservoir is more than just a new facility. It’s a forward-looking investment in resilience and reliability. As our cities continue to grow, we must ensure that our infrastructure keeps pace.
This project reflects Manila Water’s commitment to safeguarding water supply for our communities, even in the face of natural disasters like major earthquakes,” Manila Water Communication Affairs Group Director Jeric Sevilla said.
As of July, the project is 26.90 percent complete. Current works include excavation, lean concreting, and rebar fabrication and installation for the Phase 1 Mat Foundation. Acoustic barriers have been installed to minimize noise and other construction-related disturbances.
