Sultan Kudarat road mishap kills 8

LEBAK, Sultan Kudarat — A mini dump truck carrying passengers plunged into a ravine in the southern Philippines, killing eight people and injuring 15 others, police said. The accident occurred Thursday afternoon along Highway 70 in Barangay Christianuevo, Lebak, Sultan Kudarat.

The victims were on their way to Barangay Senditan in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte, after attending a community gathering in Lebak. According to police reports, the truck lost control and fell off a cliff.

Police and rescue teams quickly responded to the scene to assist the injured and recover the victims. Several minors were among the injured and were taken to the nearest hospital.

Authorities identified the confirmed fatalities as Tods Mamintal, Tayer Naka, Babylyn Sahipa, Aling Sahipa, Muhammad Digan, Muhammad Macarimbang, Ramon Manoo and an unidentified individual.

The injured were identified as Saidamin Omar, Wmbos Uteng, Musib Nakan, Bens Takpan, Ayreen Tacpan, Haya Matabalao, Ibrahim Ambolodto, Johair Omar, Alvin Adam, Arbaina Ambolodto, Morsalin Degan, Pending Eman, Haya Bansalan, Samsudin Ambolodto and Bibi Tacpan.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the crash, including a possible mechanical failure. Eyewitnesses said the truck was overloaded, which may have contributed to the driver losing control.

Local officials have extended their condolences to the families of the victims and have pledged to provide financial and medical assistance.
