Senator Imee Marcos on Wednesday urged her fellow senators to comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling, warning that waiting for the resolution of pending motions for reconsideration (MRs) could undermine the High Court’s authority and delay the impeachment process unnecessarily.
"The Impeachment Court or the Senate cannot simply choose which part of the decision it will comply with," Marcos said, referring to the Supreme Court's ruling that was deemed “immediately executory.”
“If we subscribe to the view that we should wait for the resolution of the MRs, then we would not be respecting the ‘immediately executory’ portion of the decision,” she added.
Marcos cautioned that treating the decision as subject to further delay would effectively reduce it to a temporary restraining order (TRO) or status quo ante order — which, she emphasized, "was clearly not the Court’s intent."
“Worse, we will be reducing the decision to a mere TRO/status quo ante order, which is not the intent of the SC,” she said.
Some senators have reportedly suggested waiting for the final resolution of MRs filed in connection with the ruling, citing the need for legal finality before the Senate acts on the matter.
