The Department of Energy (DOE) is pushing to accelerate the installation of solar power among all government buildings to boost renewable energy use while reducing costs.
“The government is committed to creating an enabling environment for renewable energy, but we need your help to make this real. Let us aim for 100% solar installation in all government buildings,” Energy Undersecretary Felix William B. Fuentebella said Wednesday.
The Department Circular No. 2024-06-0021 mandates that government entities optimize energy use and integrate renewable energy into public buildings.
Fuentebella stressed the need for strong public-private partnerships to drive the initiative, which is expected to cut energy consumption, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and generate jobs in the renewable energy sector.
Beyond government facilities, Fuentebella said the DOE is also working to extend electricity to underserved areas through the strategic deployment of Solar Home Systems.
The National Electrification Administration aims to energize 100,000 households this year, expanding to 154,000 over the next two years, in line with the administration's target of nationwide electrification by 2028.
