An American fashion brand might be on the hot seat for its controversial “great jeans” advertisement that allegedly promote a white girl has having “great genes,” but for a Japanese brand, it is not “genes,” but the right cut and silhouette that make jeans “great” and suitable for anyone of any race and age.
To prove its point, Japanese label Uniqlo recently showed to the press that even their wide-legged pants look flattering on Asians.
While petites and Asians usually favor skinny jeans to give that long-legged effect, regular straight fit and flare jeans could also give the same enigma, said Ayi Custodio of styling group StyLIZed Studio by celebrity stylist Liz Uy.
“So this is nice if you want to elongate your legs, to look taller and slimmer on your legs,” she advised.
According to her, baggy jeans, such as J. W. Anderson’s new denim collection for the Japanese brand, are “more for streetwear,” said Custodio.
To look and feel more relaxed, she recommended wide-legged jeans that also come in white and gray for those into a more formal, workwear look.
These new editions, she assured, are everyday essentials not only for those with “great genes,” but for all body types for any occasion.
