Baler, Aurora – The Coast Guard Station (CGS) Aurora has ordered vessels to brace for tsunami as both Russia and Japan were hit by tsunami earlier today.
In its CGSAU-0725-05 Notice to Mariners issued today, the CGS Aurora said that all vessels near the shorelines or shallow areas of the sea should distance themselves from the shores and ensure that the vessels should be beached or docked, and the crew should evacuate to higher ground.
If the vessels are in the open sea, they should remain in the deepest part of the sea and refrain from returning to the shores until the CGS Aurora does not issues additional advisory.
The notice cited that there is a possibility of a minor sea-level disturbance in the coastal areas of the country, including the province of Aurora.
The CGS Aurora issued the Notice to Mariners, which is in line with the Tsunami Information No. 2 Advisory of PHIVOLCS this morning. The advisory is in relation to the Magnitude 8.7 earthquake that hit the coastal areas of Kamchatka, Russia.
According to the latest wave modelling of the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the coastal areas fronting the Pacific Ocean will likely experience low-grade tsunami or minor sea-level disturbance, including Aurora.
The expected height of the tsunami waves will be below one meter, and would occur between 1:20pm to 2:40pm.
