A new biopic on Michael Jackson will open in theaters on 24 April 2026, a far later date than its original October 2025 release.

Titled Michael, the film will explore the global superstar’s journey to becoming the King of Pop. It presents an intimate look at his life and enduring legacy as one of the most influential, trailblazing artists the world has ever known.

The Hollywood Reporter previously reported that Michael, initially intended to have a lengthy run time, is now expected to end with Jackson leaving The Jacksons, shortly after the release of Off the Wall (1979).

“Ever since we debuted some early Michael footage at CinemaCon last year, it’s been crystal clear how much global interest and enthusiasm there is,” Lionsgate film chair Adam Fogelson said. “Much has happened since, and while we aren’t quite ready to share more, we’re going to have some big and exciting things to say in the coming weeks. So be patient, and stay tuned.”

Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, takes on the lead role with Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, and Nia Long as Katherine Jackson. Miles Teller plays John Branca, Jackson’s attorney and advisor; Larenz Tate as Motown Records founder Berry Gordy; Laura Harrier as music executive Suzanne de Passe; and Kat Graham as Diana Ross.

With them are Jessica Sula as La Toya Jackson, Michael’s older sister; Liv Symone as Gladys Knight; Kevin Shinick as Dick Clark; KeiLyn Durrel Jones as Jackson’s former security-turned-trusted friend and confidante Bill Bray; and Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones.

Michael reportedly has a $155 million production budget.
