DigiPlus pursues Africa bettors

DigiPlus Interactive Corp. is eyeing an expansion into South Africa, leveraging the country’s proposed Remote Gambling Bill, which would legalize more online gaming formats.

In a report on Friday, the company said the plan complements its international growth strategy following its scheduled Brazil launch this September.

“We are thrilled to take this next bold step in our international journey,” said DigiPlus Chairman Eusebio Tanco.

“South Africa is not just the largest online gaming market in Africa, it’s a gateway to the continent’s digital future. As we expand from Southeast Asia to Latin America and Africa, we remain committed to responsible innovation, local compliance, and developing products that connect deeply with culture and community.”

At present, the company is preparing to file its license applications with the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, South Africa’s preferred jurisdiction for online gambling operations.

DigiPlus aims to secure a National Manufacturer License, Bookmaker License, and Bookmaker Premises License, alongside key employee licenses to support its operations.

The licensing process involves intensive probity checks on the company and its ultimate beneficial owners, followed by board review and final platform testing. Approval is expected to take at least six months from filing.

The company is also setting up a local legal entity in compliance with South African rules allowing foreign ownership and directorship.

Valued at over $1.6 billion in 2023 and 2024, South Africa’s online betting industry continues to expand by up to five percent annually, driven by high mobile use, a digitally engaged population, and strong demand for live sports betting.
