A new low-pressure area (LPA) is being monitored inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Monday.

According to the weather bureau, the LPA has a "medium" potential of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.

The LPA was located 950 kilometers east-northeast of Eastern Visayas as of 10 a.m.

Heavy rainfall is expected on Wednesday noon across Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Pangasinan, Tarlac, and Occidental Mindoro.

PAGASA said forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas.

On Sunday, 20 July, PAGASA said the LPA was unlikely to develop into a tropical cyclone. Should it become a tropical cyclone, it will be named "Dante."

PAGASA earlier estimated that two or three tropical cyclones could develop within or enter PAR in July.
