California Governor Gavin Newsom's office said he had been briefed on "the reported explosion" and was "closely monitoring the situation."
Fox News and other media outlets reported that at least three sheriff's deputies were killed. According to the Los Angeles Times, which cited unnamed sources, the explosion occurred while the facility's bomb squad was moving explosives.
