The President assured the public on Friday that the government will continue producing physical national identification cards, even as it accelerates its transition to digital services.
Speaking at the launch of the eGovPH Super App and the eGovPH Serbisyo Hub in San Juan City, Marcos acknowledged the demand for physical IDs despite the widespread rollout of their digital counterparts.
“May sektor pa rin ng ating lipunan na nag-i-insist doon sa physical ID. So, isusunod na namin ‘yun (There are sectors of society that insist on acquiring physical IDs. So we are working on that),” he said, referring to sectors of society still reliant on physical documentation.
The President emphasized the importance and convenience of the digital national ID, particularly its integration with the eGovPH Super App, which centralizes access to various government services and transactions.
"Inuna namin ‘yung digital dahil siyempre iyon talaga ang pinaka-nagagamit (We just prioritize this because of course these are more useful),” he noted, adding that 88 million Filipinos have already received their digital national IDs.
“With the digital ID, we are able to do all of the things that the eGov app is able to do," Marcos explained.
“You can do all that in the comfort of your own home, in your office, or you know, while you’re playing Candy Crush. If you have five minutes, then do the paperwork that you need to do over the internet,” he added.
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, as of 6 June, 93,485,139 Filipinos have registered for the national ID program.
Out of the country’s total population of 112,729,484, over 54.9 million physical IDs have already been delivered.
The National ID program, also known as PhilSys, aims to streamline identity verification across public and private sectors and is a key component of the government’s broader digital transformation agenda.
