The Supreme Court (SC) confirmed on Wednesday that it is taking action in response to email threats made against judges of the Pasig Regional Trial Court (RTC), which is currently handling several high-profile cases.
The high tribunal said an investigation is underway and that it is working closely with law enforcement agencies. It assured the public that appropriate security measures have been implemented to protect judges, court staff, litigants, and the general public.
“The Judiciary remains committed to upholding judicial independence,” the SC said in a statement.
The Court also urged the public and stakeholders to remain vigilant and continue supporting the judicial process with trust and respect.
The SC disclosed that the threats were received via email on the morning of July 16 and were specifically directed at certain judges of the Pasig RTC. However, it did not identify which judges were targeted.
“The judges will continue to carry out their duties with integrity and calm resolve, guided by fairness and the rule of law,” the SC added, emphasizing its close monitoring of the situation.
The Pasig RTC is currently hearing several controversial cases, including those involving detained religious leader Apollo Quiboloy and former Bamban mayor Alice Guo.
