The Philippines blasted Singapore, 13-0, to post its third straight win in the Women’s Softball Asia Cup last Thursday in Xi’an, China.
The Blu Girls erupted with eight runs in the first inning to set the tone for the impressive victory that gave them a 5-1 win-loss record in this prestigious continental event.
Skylenne Ellazar, Mylia Perez, Alyssa Daniell, Nicole Hammoude, Angelu Gabriel, Roma Jane Cruz, Mary Joy Maguad and Ma. Victoria Magbanua starred in the early rally before adding four more runs in the second inning to post a 12-0 lead that greatly demoralized the Singaporeans.
After a scoreless third inning, Callie Christian put on the finishing touches in the fourth inning after scoring a run off a throwing error from the Singaporeans.
The Philippines, which also blanked Malaysia and India in its previous matches, is battling China at press time.
A win over the unbeaten Chinese will give the Blu Girls a chance to reach the final and a slot in the 2026 Women’s Softball World Cup.
On the other hand, a loss would send the Filipinas to the bronze medal match.
With the Blu Girls already assured of a finish within the Top 8, they will compete in the 20th Asian Games that would be held in Japan next year.
“Our momentum is building and the girls are more cohesive with every inning,” Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines president Jean Henri Lhuillier said.
“(Our latest) win shows how they’re translating that confidence into results.”
