Central Luzon crime rate drops 3.46%

Crime incidents in Central Luzon declined by 3.46 percent, with cases dropping from 1,156 recorded between June 20 and July 1 last year to 1,116 during the same period this year.

Notably, the number of cases under the Philippine National Police (PNP)’s eight focus crimes also decreased, from 122 to 104. These include murder, homicide, physical injury, and rape (crimes against persons), as well as robbery, theft, carnapping, and motorcycle theft (crimes against property).

Police Regional Office 3 (PRO 3) Director Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones credited the decrease to sustained law enforcement efforts, which led to the arrest of 305 wanted individuals, including 149 tagged as most wanted.

Anti-firearm operations also yielded results, with 55 firearms confiscated and 24 suspects apprehended in 25 operations.

The region’s anti-drug campaign likewise intensified, with 259 operations resulting in 407 arrests and the seizure of approximately P15.9 million worth of shabu and marijuana.

In line with PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III’s directive to strengthen public service responsiveness, Peñones personally distributed 300 handheld radios to field units and funded the purchase of 10 drones to enhance surveillance and tactical operations.

“This effort goes beyond simply providing equipment — it’s about ensuring our officers are connected, responsive, and ready to act when every second matters,” Peñones said. “We do not just equip our personnel for compliance — we prepare them for real-world response.”

To support faster and more effective operations, Peñones has mandated regular simulation and communication drills to meet PRO 3’s five-minute response time standard.

He has also begun leading on-the-ground assessments to review deployment strategies and ensure high police visibility throughout the region.
