Jhodie Peralta clinched five out of the Philippine national weightlifting team’s eight medals on the second day of the Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Peralta, who won three gold medals in the women’s 55-kilogram category of the IWF World Youth & Junior Championships last May in Peru, grabbed three silver medals in the youth women’s 53kg category and two bronze medals in the junior division of the same weight category.
She lifted 84kgs in snatch, 97kgs in clean-and-jerk for a total of 181kgs.
In the youth men’s 60kg division, Jerick Icon Castro got one silver and two bronze medals after lifting 105kgs in the snatch and 128kgs in the clean-and-jerk for a total of 233kgs.
Prince Kiel delos Santos missed the podium in the snatch of the junior men’s 60kg category after doing 119kgs.
He finished seventh in the clean-and-jerk with 135kgs and in the total lift with 254kgs.
The Philippines has collected one gold, five silvers and seven bronze medals so far.
Mango Prince David Tarro of the junior men’s 65kg category and Albert Ian delos Santos in the junior men’s 71kgcategory are competing at press time.
