SC cited by GSIS for P95M in premiums paid

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has recognized the Supreme Court (SC) as one of the top-performing agencies in the “large category” for consistently and substantially paying its social insurance premiums.

As a result, the GSIS recently awarded the High Court with a Certificate of Recognition of Highest Paid Premiums for Billing of Unpaid Premiums. The award highlights the judiciary’s payment of over P95 million in premiums covering the period from October 2007 to December 2024.

The award was received on 25 June 2025 by Atty. Marilyn I. De Joya, Deputy Clerk of Court and Chief of the Fiscal Management and Budget Office, on behalf of the SC. The recognition was given during the GSIS Stakeholders’ Dialogue held at the Sequoia Hotel Manila Bay.

The GSIS cited the Supreme Court’s consistent compliance with its obligations, lauding its commitment to protecting employee benefits, ensuring retirement security, and upholding public trust.

Atty. Maria Carina Matammu-Cunanan, SC Deputy Clerk of Court and Chief Administrative Officer, noted that Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo prioritizes the operational and personnel needs of the judiciary.

Under Presidential Decree No. 1146 or the Revised Government Service Insurance Act of 1977, most government employees who have not yet reached retirement age are required to be members of the GSIS. Contributions consist of an employee’s share and the corresponding agency’s share.

Judiciary members and personnel contribute at least 3 percent of their monthly salary, with the employer matching an additional 3 percent for life insurance coverage.
