Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla has filed his application for the position of Ombudsman, which will be vacated on 27 July by incumbent Ombudsman Samuel R. Martires.
Remulla confirmed the development on Friday, saying, “Nai-file na kahapon (I filed it yesterday).”
He submitted his application to the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC), which will deliberate and conduct public interviews before submitting a shortlist of nominees to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for appointment.
The JBC is a constitutional body responsible for accepting, screening, and nominating appointments to the judiciary, the Office of the Ombudsman and its deputies, and the Legal Education Board. It is chaired by Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo in an ex-officio capacity.
The JBC earlier announced that the deadline for applications or nominations for the Ombudsman post is today, 4 July.
