Kevin Quiambao is not giving up on his dream of playing in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
The 24-year-old forward is now in Sacramento, California to train, hopeful of becoming the latest Filipino to see action in the NBA Summer League.
So far, no team has yet to express interest in signing Quiambao, but he is making good progress, especially since he is in Sacramento, where former Gilas Pilipinas star Jimmy Alapag is working as an assistant under head coach Doug Christie.
In a social media post on Thursday, Quimabao expressed his excitement and eagerness to chase his NBA dream.
“Sactown babyyyy,” said Quiambao, who was spotted playing a pickup game against other NBA Summer League hopefuls at the College Prep Academy gym in Sacramento.
Quimbao has what it takes to see action in the NBA Summer League.
Gifted with a 6-foot-4 frame, feathery touch from the outside and smooth handles, the former De La Salle University star has been working hard to earn the attention of NBA coaches, scouts and talent evaluators.
His hard work gave him so much success in college basketball in which he led the Green Archers to the title in Season 86 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.
But after falling to University of the Philippines the following season, Quiambao decided to pack his bags to turn professional at the Korean Basketball League.
His rookie year for the Goyang Sono Skygunners was impressive in which he posted 16.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.3 steals in 23 games.
With that, he signed a fresh three-year deal but his dream of becoming the first ever full-blooded Filipino in the NBA is too hard to ignore.
If Quiambao makes it, he will become the latest Filipino to play in the Summer League following Kiefer Ravena, Ray Parks, and Kai Sotto.
