MRT-3, LRT-2 launch student-only lanes to cut queues

To address the long lines and ease the commute for students, rail lines MRT-3 and LRT-2 have rolled out dedicated student lanes at all stations to facilitate seamless access to the 50 percent fare discount.
The move comes after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2 to reduce congestion at rail stations and prevent delays for commuters, especially students.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized the importance of efficient passenger movement at public transport hubs, particularly for young commuters.
“President Bongbong Marcos gave strict instructions to make the lives of commuters easier. We also shouldn’t make it hard to verify student discounts so there won’t be long lines and the flow of student passengers is fast — so they won’t be late for school,” said Secretary Dizon.
Meanwhile, the Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC), which operates LRT-1, is preparing to implement an organized queuing system to manage crowd flow and minimize delays for students availing of fare discounts.
Last 20 June, following the President’s directive, the Department of Transportation mandated that the three main rail lines increase student fare discounts from 20 percent to 50 percent, effective until 2028.
