The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced Friday it has revoked the driver’s license of the truck driver involved in a viral road crash in Marikina City that killed three people.

LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said the driver also received the maximum penalty for reckless driving, in addition to the license revocation.

The investigation began after a 23 April incident in Marikina City, where a speeding trailer truck overturned and crushed three vehicles, resulting in three deaths and 10 injuries.

Mendoza disclosed that investigators dismissed the driver’s claim of brake failure, as a thorough inspection of the vehicle did not support his alibi.

The five-page decision noted that driving a truck at night and considering road conditions requires extra caution, which the truck driver reportedly failed to exercise, leading to the accident.

Mendoza added that the fatalities and extensive damage were sufficient proof of the driver’s guilt for reckless driving and for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.

The truck involved in the accident has been placed under an alarm, and all law enforcement officers are instructed to apprehend the driver if found operating any motor vehicle.

The LTO has been actively promoting road safety measures, including regular nighttime inspections of trucks on major thoroughfares.
