Laoag City, Ilocos Norte — A 20-year-old student remained confined in a hospital Saturday after being stabbed during a violent altercation outside a nightclub in Barangay 48-B, Laoag City, early Friday morning.
The incident occurred around 5:40 a.m. on 28 June, according to the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office (INPPO). The suspect has been arrested and is facing a charge of frustrated homicide.
The victim was identified by witnesses and sources as Christian Jaye Lorenzo Quilala, a student from Dingras currently residing in Maharlika Village, Barangay 1, San Lorenzo, Laoag City. The suspect was identified as Eunhard Jhermaine Burgos Santos, 20, of Barangay 23, San Matias, Laoag City. While police did not publicly release their names, they confirmed the individuals' identities, ages and addresses.
According to the INPPO, the altercation began inside the club when Santos allegedly bumped into Quilala, triggering a brief confrontation that was quickly resolved. Before leaving, Santos reportedly told the group in Ilocano, “Iyuray na kami” (“Wait for us”), then left the scene on a Suzuki Raider motorcycle.
Minutes later, as Quilala and his companions waited for a ride, the suspect returned, revved his motorcycle, and shouted insults at the group. Police said he then approached Quilala and allegedly stabbed him twice — once in the right forearm and once in the right side of the abdomen — with a folding tactical knife.
Bouncers and companions of the victim were able to subdue the suspect until police arrived. Officers recovered a black folding knife measuring 8.5 inches from Santos, which was turned over to investigators.
Quilala was rushed to Governor Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery for internal injuries. He remains hospitalized.
The suspect was taken to the Laoag City Police Station for booking and is currently in custody. Authorities said the charge of frustrated homicide has been filed before the Office of the City Prosecutor under Article 250 of the Revised Penal Code. Santos has opted for preliminary investigation.
