A potential low-pressure area (LPA) in the eastern part of the country is expected to bring scattered rain and thunderstorms in parts of the Visayas and Bicol Region starting this weekend, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
In its latest weekly weather outlook valid until Friday, 4 July, the weather bureau said the LPA may move closer to the Bicol-Eastern Visayas area by Sunday.
Its interaction with the Southwest Monsoon or habagat will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain and thunderstorms in Visayas, Mindanao, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region and Quezon until Monday.
The rest of Luzon may observe partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers during this period.
If the path of the LPA maintains its current path, Pagasa said it is forecast to move northwestward toward the eastern section of Northern Luzon from Tuesday to Friday, bringing scattered rains and thunderstorms over Luzon and Visayas.
Prior the LPA’s approach, the Southwest Monsoon will bring scattered rain and thunderstorms on Saturday over Metro Manila, Visayas, MIMAROPA, and provinces in Central and Southern Luzon including Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Bulacan, Cavite and Batangas.
Residents are advised to stay alert for possible floods or landslides especially during periods of prolonged rainfall.
