Gilas Pilipinas Women U18 center Ashlyn Abong passed away on Saturday.
She was 18 years old.
The squad announced her passing on social media as she reported to have passed out in training.
"In loving memory of our teammate and friend Ashlyn Abong #21. Quiet, kind, and strong — that was Ash," the team posted.
"She may not have said much, but she always said hi first. That small act meant everything. It showed her heart — gentle, thoughtful, and always looking out for others."
The National University-Nazareth School star competed in the FIBA U18 Asia Cup last year and averaged 5.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 steal per game.
The 5-foot-11 center even competed in Season 87 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines girls basketball as she averaged 11.6 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game to lead the Lady Bullpups to a runer-up finish.
