Makati City Police OIC Col. Reycon Garduque confirmed the arrest of three suspects involved in the theft and destruction of electrical and data cables at the Guadalupe Footbridge on Friday.
The complaint against the suspects was filed by Net Pacific, Inc., represented by 55-year-old alias “Jun,” a project auditor based in Taguig City, after discovering the theft.
A witness, alias “Klyde,” 33, from Barangay Pinagsama, Taguig, reported receiving an alert from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Metro Base around 7:44 in the morning on 25 June about cut and stolen cables at the Guadalupe Footbridge.
NET PACIFIC’s Outside Plant Team confirmed that power cables, EMT pipes, liquid-tight conduits, and CAT6 outdoor cables were stolen from both Guadalupe and Estrella sites, with damages estimated at around P104,000.
Footage from MMDA CCTV showed that on 20 June at around eight in the evening, the suspects were seen pulling cables from the company’s installations at the Guadalupe southbound area, prompting an on-site inspection.
Later that same night, around 11:00 p.m., police received a tip about suspicious activity at the same location. Officers were promptly dispatched and caught the suspects in the act of cutting live electrical wires.
The stolen cables are part of the system connecting the No-Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP) CCTV to the MMDA command center.
The suspects were identified as alias “Vincent,” 28, of Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati; and alias “John” and “Darwina,” both 20, from Barangay Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City. The three of them are unemployed.
Recovered from their possession were various cut cables and cutting tools. The suspects are currently detained at Substation 7 of the Makati City Police Station.
