Deputy Speaker and Cebu 5th District Representative Duke Frasco clarified on Sunday that he has not made any decision regarding a potential bid for the Speakership of the 20th Congress, despite speculation following his refusal to sign a manifesto backing incumbent Speaker Martin Romualdez.

“Contrary to recent reports, I have not made any decision — much less offered myself — for the position of Speaker of the House in the 20th Congress,” Frasco said in a statement.

Frasco’s move to withhold his signature from the manifesto has fueled talk of a possible independent speakership bid, with insiders citing concerns over the current House leadership’s direction. However, Frasco emphasized that his priority remains supporting the national agenda and the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“At this time, my focus remains on supporting the President's agenda and contributing to the broader goals of national unity and development. My commitment to the President’s vision remains firm,” he said.

Frasco further stated that if the speakership election were held today, he would cast his support for either Valenzuela Rep. Toby Tiangco or Bacolod Rep. Albee Benitez.

Frasco recently returned from an official trip to Japan, where he joined the President and First Lady for the World Expo, further demonstrating his alignment with the administration. Photos of Frasco at a private dinner with the presidential couple were shared on First Lady Liza Marcos’ social media.

On Monday, Frasco took his oath for a third term as representative of Cebu’s 5th District. The ceremony was officiated by Poblacion, Liloan Barangay Captain Gloria Sanchez. Frasco secured re-election with 217,303 votes and a margin of 84,201.

Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support, Frasco vowed to continue serving with dedication and compassion.

Daghang salamat, mga pinalangga kong kaigsuonan sa Kinto Distrito, sa higayon ug oportunidad nga inyong gihatag kanako sa pagpangalagad kaninyo. Your voice has been heard loud and clear, and I will continue to serve with dedication, purpose, and heart alang sa kalambuan sa atong Distrito ug sa kauswagan sa inyong tagsa-tagsa ka kinabuhi,” he said.

(Thank you very much, my beloved brothers and sisters in the 5th District, for the opportunity and chance you have given me to serve you. And for your trust, for believing in our vision, our leadership, and the work we’ve done together. Your voice has been heard loud and clear, and I will continue to serve with dedication, purpose, and heart for the progress of our District and the improvement of each of your lives.)

The oath-taking was witnessed by Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, Liloan Mayor Aljew Frasco, his partner Bona, and the Barangay Councilors of Poblacion, Liloan.
